Non profit global campaign
The idea for Amigo del Dia was conceived in the early stages of the lockdown in March 2020 by two Barcelona-based entrepreneurs: Spanish-Australian marketer and our CEO Chelsea Anthon & American restaurant owner Erin Nixon.
The first event in our program was Let’s Lunch, a campaign to encourage people back into their neighbourhood restaurants for lunch – takeaway, delivery or eat in.
The concept is simple, a global celebration of friends lunching together from a local restaurant – takeaway, delivery or dine in.
It first took place over an 11-day period, from 20 July – 30 July 2020. These dates were chosen to coincide with two key events: 20 July is the Argentinian annual celebration “Día Del Amigo”, a commemoration of friendship; and 30 July is UN International Day of Friendship.
The movement aims to generate awareness and PR for local restaurants, helping them rebuild and reconnect with their communities and attract new customers.
We developed a website to support restaurants to promote their lunch menus by simply submitting a form to include their opening hours and lunch menu. Lunch goers can search for participating restaurants by date, type of food and city.
Due to the continued uncertainty our beloved hospitality industry continues to face in 2021, we are developing future initiatives to continue supporting the industry during and post Covid019. If what we are doing resonates with you, help us to build the movement and get in contact.
